Baumann damals in seinem Artikel.
Group Memory Object Worlds
In the context of gallery exhibitions, objects were created that played with functionalities. Suddenly there were carousels of epaulettes, which brought the horizontal into the vertical, or whole groups of seats, which almost pathologically tried to locate themselves in space by means of various dragonflies. It was less and less about the ego and more about relevance, and there was a lot of appeal - the collective and a more design-oriented position beckoned into the picture, the most diverse contents were combined into modules as in real life, and the emerging gender discourse, for example, could be experienced as a foosball table packed in wooden boxes in the Hamburg producers' gallery.
Memory. A Sign Of Intelligence
From: Magazine Rogue #7, p. 29 by Konstantin Adamopoulos:
In Memory means memory - not yet experience
Memory also means: there is a place for it in the memory, which only lights up in the parallelism to a second event. With Memory, the second event is the person in his or her current situation, woven into lifestyle, design and world wide life. The idyllic small town of Constance on Lake Constance in southern Baden offers the opportunity to remember, for example, the article about the two artists Memory in Rogue No. 2 with the Don Baechler Centerfold. This time the Schneider Gallery in Constance offers the location for Memory 14.
That's what it says on the signal red invitation cards and the good posters that appeared here and there in the Frankfurt city area. 14 indicates the 14th presentation of Memory's work, as Olaf Rahlwes and Peter Zizka call the exhibition of their work. "Memory. Der letzte Stand des Irrtums" was the title of one of the last presentations and so was the subtitle of the article in the Rogue. Now we read "Memory. A Sign of Intelligence." The two from Memory work with this kind of clarity and the artist name is of course already part of the event: appearing, being known, quite actually - comma - and already gone again. There is not much left to hold on to for now. If you're not willing to invest anyway, i.e. if you're committed to taking an independent position and putting it fruitfully against things, there's no time and no place. So Memory works with the current state of affairs. From the point of view of the creator, Memory is a method: to deal with the things of the everyday world in a creative way. The person concerned is left with the backward path through the procedure, the retracing. In Konstanz the world still seems intact. It is hard to believe that here too something can tip over into the picture. The sparse platitudes that come into the picture through Memory can only be seen with mixed feelings, once you have gotten over the obvious beauty and appeal of the first glance. W.E. Baumann called this post-pop art in his article. The already obsolete, the no longer problematic comes back into the picture - archival, beautiful, ordered, filed and yet presented. This could be seen in Konstanz: the lake tilted, as a picture within a picture; apple photos formed into picture cubes; the tennis court for the wall with wooden blocks and transport box; the foamed-out Messeturm; the lighthouse invites you to visit it; a table and two chairs, obviously in the water; beautiful again: the old foosball table under the warm light of the skirts - noble wooden architecture that looks like noble wooden architecture. In the solitary presentation it embodies the image, a reflection of what has been thought back. Memory. Where is the genius in that? One finds it difficult to develop or give confidence. Memory's objects truly undermine trust, because they remain close to the familiar, show themselves in the beautiful dress of the times, are optically no alternative - this has to be established in the perception of one's own possibilities.
